Jobs for Pharmacist – Some essential aspects
Are communication and team work important in the Clinical Pharmacist career and in any Pharmacy specialisation?
What's the role of communication? Is being a good communicator an important skill to find and keep a job as a Pharmacist? Does the way a Pharmacist communicates his ideas have an influence on the way he interacts in a team?
Job councillors state the many people lose their jobs because they are inefficient communicators and not necessarily because they are bad professionals. Most Human Resources Directors coincide - communication skills and being able to work in a team are all vital.
Communicate
The performance of a good communicator starts before he opens his mouth. Communication abilities imply, first of all, being an excellent listener. This aspect is all vital in Oncology Pharmacists and in Neonatal Pharmacists, since they deal with specific severe health disorders.
As a Pharmacist listen to your boss and co-workers and you will avoid misunderstanding. If you deal with patients, listen to them carefully, as that will prevent you from making silly mistakes.
In turn, you will have your opportunity to speak. Mind the way you say things, for example, your voice tone, attitude, gestures, and body language. Being articulate and speaking at the right volume will facilitate communication, as your message will be easier to understand and your listeners will be more inclined to accept your opinion.
Be a part of the team
Most us spend more time at work than at home. This fact sets the opportunity for us to come to know our co-workers very well. In consequence, one may fall in the temptation to criticise them, focusing on their mistakes and faults. Make the effort to avoid doing so, and mind your own business. This way, you won't waste neither yours nor the other's time, and you will avoid unnecessary arguments as well.
When you are in charge of a task, be generous and have a tender heart. If you gain the reputation of being a diligent employee, because you are always willing to give an excellent service, your job as a Pharmacist will really safer.
However, your boss's demands have a limit. Don't allow him/her to interfere in your personal matters, such as leisure time or personal likes and dislikes. Be firm but, at the same time, always keep respect when you have to set certain limits.
