Jobs as a Pharmacist

Though almost all pharmacist jobs are related to dispensing medicines and dealing with drug information, there are some other related duties that may vary, according to the many Jobs as a Pharmacist available these days.   

For example, pharmacists that practice in community pharmacies advise patients and answer their questions about side effects or interactions of prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Their knowledge is also very useful in terms of other health care issues, as dieting and stress management, as well in some more specific conditions, as diabetes, high blood pressure, or smocking cessation management, which request a specialized attention that some community pharmacists are able to give. Vaccination administration is another job as a Pharmacist for which these professionals may also be trained.

In the case of those who own community pharmacies, many of them opt for selling products with no relation to health care, and take the hiring and supervision of the working staff -as well as the overall development and performance of the store- as part of their pharmacist jobs.

Another possible job as a pharmacist is found in health care institutions and organizations, such as the long term care services. Apart from dispensing medications and advising to patients, pharmacists also have to advice some physicians and other health care staff members in terms of medications selection. They may also develop and monitor some drug treatments or therapies, as well as performing some overall evaluations about drug-use for hospitals and managed care organizations.

Home infusion care services may usually offer a job as a pharmacist. In those institutions, the pharmacist is in charge of preparing and implementing various solutions or dispensing medications intravenously to patients at their homes. This job is also related to the monitoring of the patients’ response to therapy.

There are some other Pharmacist jobs which require higher a specialization, such as oncology, nuclear and pediatric pharmacy,
